Why printed plastic
For jigs, fixtures, tooling and low-volume parts, a printed engineering plastic often does exactly the job a machined aluminium part was doing.
01
Around 60% lighter than aluminium, 85% lighter than steel.
02
Rev A to Rev D inside a week. No CAM, no workholding, no queue.
03
No moulds, no dies. One part costs what one part should.
Materials
Each of these earns its place for a specific reason. If your application doesn't obviously fit one, describe it and we'll pick.
| Material | Why you'd choose it | Typical parts |
|---|---|---|
| ABS | Tough and impact-resistant. Easy to machine and bond after printing. | General fixtures, housings, prototypes that get handled hard. |
| ABS-CF | Carbon fibre filled — stiffer, with far less warp on large flat geometry. | Large jigs, checking fixtures, flat plates that have to stay flat. |
| ASA | UV and weather stable. Won't yellow or go brittle outdoors. | Outdoor enclosures, exposed mounts, anything sitting in sunlight. |
| ASA-CF | Weather resistance plus carbon stiffness and dimensional stability. | Outdoor brackets and structural parts with a long service life. |
| PA6-CF | High strength and heat resistance. The structural workhorse. | EOAT arms, load-bearing brackets, parts near heat sources. |
| PA12-CF | Lower moisture uptake than PA6 — holds dimensions in humid conditions. | Inspection fixtures, gauges, precision-critical tooling. |
| TPU | Flexible and abrasion resistant. Grips without marking the part. | Gripper pads, gaskets, dampers, protective sleeving. |
| PLA | Cheap, fast and sharp on fine detail. No real heat or load resistance. | Prototypes, everyday shop aids, architectural models. |
Not sure which? Send us the part and its working conditions — temperature, load, chemical contact, indoors or out — and we'll spec the material with you before quoting. Most other engineering-grade filaments can be sourced on request.
